Studio Drift x van Opstal
For the new creation ‘The Point Being’ created for the Nederlands Dans Theater 1 (NDT), Imre and Marne worked closely with Lonneke Gordijn to realise the scenography. Lonneke Gordijn is one of the founders of DRIFT, working on experiential sculptures, installations and performances.
DRIFT manifests the phenomena and hidden properties of nature with the use of technology in order to learn from the Earth’s underlying mechanisms, and to re-establish our connection to it. With both depth and simplicity, DRIFT’s artworks illuminate parallels between man-made and natural structures through deconstructive, interactive, and innovative processes. The artists raise fundamental questions about what life is and explore a positive scenario for the future.
Through conversations and research their interest landed on the idea of synchronicity, – the seemingly
fleeting moment in which everything seems to make sense. With the aim to make the invisible, visible she developed a light installation that at times is in harmony with the choreography and other times creates friction.
What happens when multiple, seemingly unrelated events collide? How do they overlap as one
breathable entity that consistently morphs into new ways of being? With a multidisciplinary approach, in
which choreography, scenography, music and light created an ever changing landscape giving inspiration to abstract space. Led by a carefully composed score by Amos Ben-Tal, consisting of electronic and natural sources. The Point Being invites you into this visual connection where we try to stop time for a moment, in a world that continuously seems to escape the moment.
